A performer’s costume helps define the status of the character and the geographical and historical context. Sometimes a costume (with other scenery) can set time context such as night or day. Costumes at to the mood and atmosphere and aid the unspoken narrative.
Each costume has to be designed to highlight the dancer’s body, accentuating limb lines, with ease of movement. Costumes can add to the overall style and humour of the dance work and can complement the set design to convey mood or atmosphere.
